ANTI WRINKLE INJECTIONS
What is Botox® and how does it work?
Botox® injections are used to create a fresher and more youthful appearance by causing a temporary freezing of the treated facial muscles
• on the forehead (frown lines),
• vertically or horizontally in between the eyes (brow furrows/ "11's" or glabellar) and/or the crow’s feet or laughter lines around the eyes.
• to correct a “gummy” looking smile.
• on “bunny line” wrinkles either side of the nose
• in the chin to correct “chin-ullite” bumpy chin
• in the masseter muscles to slim the face, and help with teeth grinding
• in the platysmal bands
The procedure is safe, not painful and is quick to perform.
Who performs the injections at Gallery Aesthetics?
BOTOX® Injection procedures should be administered by a qualified and experienced aesthetics professional. We only use experienced, qualified practitioners to perform our treatments, so you can be absolutely sure of a highly professional, discreet and safe service.
What does the treatment entail?
There is an initial detailed consultation, whereby your aesthetics goals will be discussed and you will be advised accordingly. You will be asked to move the relevant areas of your face (that you wish to soften and rejuvenate), any natural asymmetry will be noted, and photographs will be taken for your own private record sheets. A bespoke treatment of Botox® will be administered, as every patient is different and not everyone wishes to have the same end result. Between 5-10 small injections are necessary, depending on which areas are to be treated, and each combined consultation and treatment lasts around 30 minutes.
How long does it take to start working and how long do the effects last for?
The response to the injections is not immediate, and it will usually take several days for the muscles to respond, with efficacy peaking at around 2 weeks. The effects are temporary and place the muscles into hibernation for approximately 3-4 months, depending on the area you wish to treat and how many times you have had it previously. After this time repeat Botox® injections will be required to maintain its skin smoothing effects. Patients often report that indeed the effects last longer, after their repeated treatments. Continued use can have a preventative effect, as logic dictates the treated areas (and therefore, the overlying skin) move less.
Will the injections only work on a certain age range of patients?
Whilst it is true that the more elastic the skin, the better the treatment will work – Botox® can be utilised to smooth wrinkles from around 20 to 65 years of age. It works best in patients who have lines caused by muscle pull (and preferably before the lines have become too deep), as opposed to wrinkles caused largely by excess loose skin and/ or sun damage. An individual consultation with one of our doctors is the best way of ascertaining whether the treatment is suitable and beneficial for you as an individual patient.
Are there any side effects, and does it hurt?
Remember, any time that the skin is pierced with a needle – you risk infection, swelling and bruising, even if it’s only a minor risk. You can wear makeup after an hour though, and any bruising tends to be pin prick and limited to the injection sites.
It’s one of the most straightforward procedures at the clinic, and although we’ve never had one single case of ptosis (or drooping) at our clinic – it is of course possible and we are duty bound to warn you of the same.
Can I have a lift as well as eliminate wrinkles?
If you ask for a lateral (side) lift to your eyebrows (whereby your injections are more concentrated in the middle of your forehead), you may have to compromise on some small wrinkles/ movement to gain such a lift. This is the only time you should see movement, UNLESS you specifically ask for a more mobile result. This should be explained to you by your practitioner.
I had Botox recently, but I still have lines on my face?
Some people do have a small groove in their skin where their lines once were, after BOTOX® has taken full effect, if their dynamic lines were particularly deep in the first place. If the grooves were deep, the skin is photo-damaged, thin, or excessively aged – it can take some weeks and months for the skin to relax and heal, to eliminate such lines. Your practitioner will manage your individual expectations during your consultation.
What is your policy in respect of top ups?
If, post injection – you decide that you need a top-up – please contact us immediately! (within 2 weeks of your treatment) We will offer you a top up within a strict time period, and we cannot go outside of this. It is your responsibility to make time to attend. To waiver on this issue, means you have a higher risk of developing an immunity to Botox years in the future... and thus it’s not a risk worth taking!
We hope this helps, but do feel free to mail us with any queries at info@galleryaesthetics.com
